Julie Skentelbery
Julie Skentelbery is a senior presenter with BBC Radio Cornwall and presents the daytime programme from 10am-2pm every weekday. Her show is the place that Cornwall comes to talk, Julie’s speciality. Julie who was born in Looe, first joined Radio Cornwall at the very start in the 1980’s but was lured away by the glamour of local TV, becoming a familiar face on ITV Westcountry for many years, known for being able to tackle any and every subject with her trademark humour and vast knowledge. Trained as an apprentice by the Mirror group Julie is a journalist through and through. Across a career of 40+ years Julie has covered every kind of story in Cornwall, from her early days as a fresh-faced trainee, to a young Mum of two and now as a widow. Julie’s fascination and understanding of the people and places and her love of Cornwall makes Julie a brilliant broadcaster. Julie says “ I don’t just broadcast to Cornwall it’s my life, I’m part of the place”. In recent times Julie has shared with her audience the impact of the tragic loss of the love of her life to cancer and sepsis and as with everything in her life has used this experience to connect with others, growing a community of people supporting one another on socials and on air.
