Strike

This series marked the 40 th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike, a dispute which changed the face of Britain. Its eight episodes track the roots of the strike, and its twists and turns, through the voices of those most closely involved, including miners and their families, politicians and police officers. Its main focus is South Wales, which was the second biggest coalfield when the strike began, but within two years had lost half of its pits. Presenter Jonny Owen, who was a teenager in the valleys in 1985, brings passion and an intense spirit of inquiry to his subject.
