The Day The Sea Caught Fire: The Boscastle Flood
On the 16th August 2004, torrential rain fell over a small Cornish town and didn’t stop. A wall of water swept through the heart of Boscastle leading to one of the greatest rescues since the 2nd world war. The deep valley flooded as 20 million tonnes of rainwater washed away the main road bridge and swept cars and buildings into the sea. This is the story told by the rescued, the helicopter and RNLI crews, with extraordinary new insights, including how the sea caught fire. BBC Weather Forecaster David Braine asks “Why did it happen” and “Could it happen again”?
