The Secret Army

A critically acclaimed film about a film. In the spring of 1972, the Irish Republican Army made an extraordinary decision: in the midst of the worst violence of the Troubles, they would make a documentary. A small group of filmmakers was allowed to record young IRA women and men – unmasked, armed and carrying out attacks – in what looked like a propaganda coup. Then the film disappeared. After its rediscovery almost five decades later, Darragh MacIntyre follows evidence around the world, revealing hidden aspects of the original film alongside the shadows of British Intelligence, the CIA, and even Mossad.
