Spotlight - I Am Not Okay

An extraordinary glimpse of real life that changed government policy. ‘I Am Not Okay’ went inside the daily lives of four families struggling to care for adolescent boys who have autism and severe learning disabilities. Those conditions can lead to them lashing out in distress, often unintentionally harming themselves and their mothers. One autism expert described the film as “the most moving, compelling viewing I have ever seen…sensitively and beautifully produced without looking away from the harsh reality”. The Northern Ireland Health Minister said the programme changed his understanding and ordered new funding for autism care as a result.
